Bessma (Abbasse) Richardson, age 96, of Grand Rapids, went to be with her Lord on Monday, November
7, 2022.

Bessma was born in Grand Rapids on June 24, 1926, to Mohamad and Elsie (Waldron) Abbasse. She
graduated from South High School. She moved to New York with her husband, Jack, where they lived
for eight years before returning to Grand Rapids. Bessma took a job at Steelcase in the pricing and billing
department, from which she retired in 1990 and began operating the Steelcase Care Volunteer Center
serving the community running blood drives and charity events. She also worked for the City of East
Grand Rapids during this time manning the front desk, as well as working election polls for many years.

Bessma loved to read, crochet, and spend time in the kitchen. She was a wonderful cook and always
made enough to share with her family, friends, and neighbors. She always had a kind word to say and
would drop anything to lend a helping hand to those that needed it. She impacted everyone that she
met. Bessma was a caretaker by nature, and her family and friends meant the world to her.

Bessma will be dearly missed by her children: Dale (Michelle) Richardson and Katherine Lazar; 11
grandchildren: Stacey (Mark), Jennifer (Zach), John (Star), Jordan, Leah, Anthony, Brittany, Frank,
Samantha, and Zachary; 14 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; as well as many other
family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Richardson; her daughter, Beverly Zozars;
and 10 brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Ofield Funeral Home,
4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Kentwood, with Pastor Erik Harvey officiating. A visitation will be held from
5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022, at the funeral home and again on Saturday from
10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Fairplains Cemetery.
