Bernard (Bernie) Shaltz, age 92 of Leota, MI, passed away January 28, 2023. Born and
raised in Grand Rapids and known to his friends at American Seating as "Bernie the
Bender", he will be remembered for his easygoing personality, his love of nature, and
his ability to make friends with everyone.

He is survived by his daughter Victoria (Ron) Roys, his son Mark (Linda) Shaltz, his
granddaughter Rebecca (Jeffrey) Bissonnette, and his Brother-in-Law Mike (Mary)
O'Krangley, and many nieces and nephews. Bernie will also be remembered by his hunting buddies, Pete, John, & Sharon Zerfas,
and Larry Nylaan, who were a second family to him.

Bernie was one of the longest serving employees of American Seating Company,
having been with the company for almost 50 years prior to his retirement in 1997. In
addition, Bernie thrived on long driving trips around Michigan and traveling throughout
the United States. This included many trips to Alaska, panning for gold and traveling to
meet family and friends that he had made along the way.

A private memorial service will be held at a later time. The family would like to thank the
staff at Railside Assisted Living Center and Hospice of Michigan for the care and
compassion shown to Bernie and all the family.
