Bernard Paul Bucek of Kentwood, Michigan, age 90, passed away Thursday, August 22, 2019. He was born to Benedict and Cecelia (Zick) Bucek on May 14, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois. Bernie was born the oldest of four children and graduated from DePaul University. He was married to Ethel (Jensen) Bucek. The family moved to Kentwood from the Chicago area in 1969, and fell in love with the West Michigan area. Bernard is preceded in death by wife Ethel; son Brian; and sister Terese. Surviving are his children, Jeffrey Bucek; daughters, Melanie (Matt) Potter, and Maria (Randy) Orr; grandchildren Jennifer, Kayleigh, Brandon, and Anthony; great-grandchildren, Trystan, Connor, Brennan, and Harleigh; sister Bette Wartell; brother Robert (MaryAnn) Bucek; and many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Bernie loved the Chicago Cubs and baseball, and enjoyed watching his great-grandkids play sports. There will be a time of visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Avenue SE, Kentwood, Michigan 49508. On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, there will be a visitation from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 1253 52nd St SE, Kentwood, Michigan 49508 with an 11:00 a.m. mass to follow. Fr. Peter Vu will be presiding. Relatives and friends may call on the family during a time of visitation from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Avenue SE, Kentwood, MI 49508. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Peter Vu at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 1253 52nd Street SE, Kentwood, Michigan 49508. Luncheon to follow at the church. There will also be a one-hour visitation prior to Mass at the church. Bernard will be laid to rest in Graceland Memorial Park, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
