IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Ann
Otis
November 16, 1939 – May 18, 2025
Barbara Ann McGregor Otis, age 85, formerly of Holland, passed away on May 18th, 2025, at home surrounded by her family.
Barbara (Bonnie) was born in Rowayton, CT on November 16, 1939, to Charles and AnnaMay McGregor. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1957, then went on to graduate from Colby College in 1961. She also attended Teachers College, Columbia University.
On June 30, 1962, Bonnie married Robert (Bob) Otis of Jersey City, NJ, at the First Congregational Church on the Green in Norwalk, CT. Together they raised three children.
Bonnie used her degree to teach 4th grade for several years. Bob's career created moves for the family to many states across the country before settling in Holland in 1978. Bonnie was an active volunteer in many local organizations and retired in 2000 after 19 years of service at Herrick District Library, where she served as Manager of the Audio/Visual Department. She and Bob were longtime members of Hope Church, where she led Sunday School classes.
After retirement, they moved from Holland to their cottage on Hamlin Lake, where she enjoyed hosting family, researching genealogy, and walking through the woods with their dog, Lucky. After Bob's passing Bonnie relocated to Grand Haven, Michigan. There, she continued her love of daily walks, this time with her dog, Champ, and remained active with quilting, travel, and reading. Her love for nature and the outdoors was a constant throughout her life.
Spending time in Pemaquid, Maine, held a special place in her heart. She cherished many trips over the years to her parent's oceanfront cottage, where she found joy in hiking the trails, watching the waves crash at the lighthouse, and observing birds and other wildlife.
She was a devoted wife to Bob for 47 years and a loving mother. She is survived by her children: Robert Otis; Ann and Randy Holkeboer; and James Otis; and by her four grandchildren: Cari (Drake), Nolan (Karly), and Matthew Otis, and Julia Raffenaud.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Bristol Area Library in Pemaquid, Maine, in Bonnie's memory.
