Obituary

Barbara Ann Hoogerhyde, age 92, was called home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2024, with her loving children by her side.

Barb was from a family of three sisters and one brother. Her brother, Gilbert Hutchings, age 98, resides in Sarasota, Florida. Barb cherished family time whenever and wherever the party was held. She also was an avid sports fanatic and a dedicated "Sparty" fan. From the time her sons were young, through her years working in the Athletic Department at Godwin Heights High School, and up until her passing, she never missed an opportunity to enjoy college basketball, football, or cheer on the Detroit Lions.

Barb was a proud mother of three sons and two daughters. Her legacy of selflessness and thoughtfulness lives on through her children: Michael (Cheryl) Hoogerhyde, Mark Hoogerhyde, Don (Laurie) Hoogerhyde, Kathy Tarachanowicz, and Barbie (Rick) Hayes. She will be deeply missed by her eleven grandchildren, whom she adored and who lovingly knew her as "Grammie." She was also fortunate to be part of four generations, cherishing her great-grandchildren dearly.

Barb was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Don, her parents, and her three sisters: Marie Runstrom, Beverly Hendrickson, and Norma VanderWerp.

Some cherished memories include her unique words: "Hoozie" and "Toad." When she was unable to recall someone's name or the name of something, she would call it a "Hoozie," which eventually became her own nickname. She would also often say "You toad" if you were being silly. Her family and friends will always treasure the laughs and joy she brought into their lives.

There will be a time to reminisce and support the family from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood, Michigan 49508. The Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2024, also at Ofield Funeral Home, with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, Barb requested memorial contributions be made to Mackenzie's Animal Sanctuary, 8935 Thompson Rd., Lake Odessa, MI 48849. https://mackenzies.info/donate/donate-online/
