Barbara "Barb" Brown, born February 5, 1945, of Alma, Michigan, passed away peacefully September 8, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
Barb was known for her deep, unwavering love for her family and her enormously big heart. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a spitfire and always said what was on her mind. Barb was incredibly passionate and persistent about feeding those she loved, always asking, "have you eaten?" and then immediately listing all of the meals she wanted to cook for you, even if you said you weren't hungry (if you knew her, you know). Her number one concern was the last time you ate, and if you didn't have a full belly when you got to her house, you definitely did when you left. Barb always gave with no expectation of receiving in return. Her kind heart and edgy sense of humor will live on through our memories of her.
She is preceded in death by her two oldest children, Dorothy Hopkins (Failing) and Jimmy Brown, as well her sisters, Dorothy and Carolyn, and her brother Bobby. She is survived by her two daughters, Betty (Kevin) Brandal and Margaret Torralva (Sal Caldera), her son-in-law, Scott Failing, as well as her grandchildren: Alesha Hopkins, Jon (Amber) Hopkins, Nik (Ali) Hopkins, Brianna Brown, Chesney Anderson (Ken Cameron), Ashleigh (Ryan) Federspiel, Amanda Torralva, Angelea Torralva, Daniel Torralva, Dakota Torralva, and Amber Torralva; and her 12 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held in Barb's honor on September 21, 2024 at 2:30 PM. We will gather at the Ithaca Wesleyan Church (712 N Pine River St. in Ithaca, MI) with lunch after the service. A burial will then take place at the Hubbardston Cemetery to follow. Please honor Barb's request to wear bright colors and celebrate her earthly journey.
