Arnold James (Jim) Holcomb, Jr., 72, of Dorr, Michigan, left this world peacefully on January 13, 2021, at 11:36 pm, after a long battle with cancer.
He was predeceased by his father, Arnold James Holcomb, Sr., and his mother, Theresa Mary Aman. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 20 years, Michelle Hess Holcomb; children, Howard Jay Holcomb (Tanya Marie), Rhonda Holcomb Webb (Curtis), his sisters, Patricia Healy and Sue Holcomb. Brother, Michael Holcomb (Charlene) as well as the constant comfort of his dogs Willy boy and his Sweetie girl. He leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and numerous other family members and friends.
Jim was a Navy Veteran who served three tours, from 1968-1971, in Vietnam. His service was rewarded by presentation of the Bronze Star, which is awarded to a person who distinguishes himself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service; and the Silver Star, given to members of the United States Armed Forces for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States. He served on the USS Forrestal. His time overseas allowed him the opportunity to visit Spain, Italy, Turkey, Australia, Japan, and many other places. Jim went on to work in the trucking industry for 12 years and at Herman Miller for 20 years.
Hobbies: Avid hunter and fisherman, camping, outdoors, boating, dancing, oldies music, puzzles and games. He loved garage and estate sales. Jim was a huge history buff. He enjoyed the chance to travel and visit historical places. Jim had a loving and giving heart, especially for children in need.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105 or online at stjude.org. There will be no service at Jim's request, but there will be a gathering of immediate family and close friends to be announced.
