Arend Martin "Mick" DeBruyn III, age 72



On November 15, 2021 our beloved husband, father and grandfather Mick DeBruyn passed away.



Mick was born December 5, 1948, oldest of five sons, to Arend M DeBruyn Jr and Marian (Sluiter) DeBruyn.



Mick grew up in Grand Rapids and graduated from Creston High School in 1968. After attending United Electronics Institute in Kentucky, he worked for more than 40 years in Grand Rapids' steel plants. He was married to Ruth Sweeney from 1971 to 1998 and had two children. In 2000, Mick married Susan Perrott Weiks and gained two step-children.



He was preceded in death by his infant brother Arlin, father Arend "Otto" Jr, brother Arthur "Joe", and mother Marian. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 22 years, Susan, his children, Stephanie (Jason) Knoll, Martin (Becky) DeBruyn, grandsons Nathan Knoll and Martin DeBruyn Jr., step-children Jennifer Parker and Michael Weiks, step-grandchildren Ashley(Alex) Alkema, Kimberly(Cody) Pingle and Charles Weiks, 4 step-great grandchildren, brothers Allen "John" and Arwin "Win" DeBruyn, along with many other family members and dear friends.

In his younger days, Mick enjoyed camping and boating at Hardy Dam, bowling and pitching in a polish hall softball league.

Mick was an avid sports fan. He and Sue were Griffins season ticket holders for many years. He also loved his Red Wings, Tigers, and U of M athletics. The man had Maize and Blue running through his veins. He also enjoyed spending time at his hunting cabin in Baldwin, and loved to go on ocean cruises with Sue, having explored many of the world's tropical locales and where he was the proud five time international belly flop champion.

A celebration of the life of our sports fan will be held in the spring of 2022. More information may be obtained through the family regarding these plans.
