April Renee
Smith
December 21, 1984 – December 18, 2016
Smith, April Renee of Wyoming Michigan. Our darling daughter April passed away December 18, 2016, after a long illness. She was a few days short of her 32nd birthday. She was preceded in death by her sister Tina, her grandparents Pat Steenwyk and Bob & Iva Smith. April will be lovingly remembered by her parents Ted & Robin Smith, grandparents Emerald and Joy Dodds, her special friend Kevin Gaines, Many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Friends and her church family. April was an outstanding Student, Daughter, Sister, Granddaughter, Niece, Cousin, Patient and Friend. She attended Godfrey Elementary, Pinewood Middle school, Kentwood,Jenison and Orion High Schools She attended Davenport and Holy Cross universities. She was taking business courses and had just added paralegal before she got sick. She was on the deans list at Davenport. She was offered a full scholarship to Holy Cross, but chose not to go back. She kept in contact with friends from most of them. April got pneumonia while she was at Holy Cross in the spring of 2007. She went to the clinic there and got antibiotics, But they weren't 100% effective. She must have had walking pneumonia for most of the year. Late in December, just before her birthday, she said she had to go to the ER. We took her to Butterworth and almost lost her there. She was transferred to the ABC on December 31, 2007, and she has been there since. She did try to wean off the ventilator, but never was able. Pain meds suppressed her breathing. Special Thanks to the staff in the Assisted Breathing Center at Metro where April lived for 8 years. Thank you for loving her as family. She loved you too. Special thanks to Kevin for being a good friend and for spoiling her. A Memorial Service will be held January 7th at 11AM. At 10AM visit with family and look at pictures.
