April May Smith, age 68, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing many different things for people over the years. She also loved to do scrapbooking along with many other crafts. April enjoyed going up to the U.P. every year, where she has been going to since she was a child. April was an advocate for pets, having several dogs and cats of her own, and making sure the feral cats were fed. Family was very important to April and she never hesitated to help anyone who needed it. April was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Helen Kwakernaak. She is survived by her fiance, Rocky Schaub; sister, Carol (Joe) Patrick; nephews, Scot (Brandy) Wilfong, Chad Wilfong; niece, Angie Wilfong (Jerome Griffin); many great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508 Friends and relatives may meet the family at the funeral home for a visitation one hour prior to the service on Saturday from 12:00 - 1:00 pm.
