Annabel J. Hovey, of Sparta, Michigan, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family on May 7, 2019, at the age of 94. She is survived by her children Larry (Sharon) Cook, Harold (Peg) Cook, Greg (Beth) Hovey, Alan Hovey, Kim (Brent) Bouwens, Deufay (Mary) Hovey IV, June Hovey, her brother Raymond (Johanna) Wietsma, sisters Esther (Ken) Verburg and Ardis (David) Matzen, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Deufay B. Hovey III, son Mike (Shin) Hovey, brother Wes (Judy) Wietsma, and sister Nina (Dale) Krueger, and great granddaughter Shanna Seeley. Ann was a believer in Jesus Christ as her Savior, and her faith was evident in all aspects of her life. She was an active member of Sparta Baptist Church for decades. She served as a foster grandparent volunteer at Ridgeview Elementary for many years. She also enjoyed working as a volunteer at RBC Ministries and Harvest Gleaners food bank. Ann was an avid reader and extremely competitive when playing cards and other games. She was a kind, generous, loving mom and grandma. She always made each one of us feel like we were the most important person in her life. She was also a loyal friend and surrogate mother and grandmother to countless friends and acquaintances worldwide. She loved life and lived each day to the fullest. To know her was to love her, and to witness her spirit was a blessing. The funeral will be held on Friday, May 10, 5:00 PM at Sparta Baptist Church, 38 S. State St., Sparta, MI 49345
