Obituary

Angela M. Clapp was born on December 24th 1920 in Grand Rapids Michigan. Her parents, Fred and Lucille White named her Angela Marguerite, unaware that they had given birth to a true angel. That beautiful Christmas Eve birth would be a loving gift that lasted one hundred and one years. Angela grew up in Grand Rapids, graduating from Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School. She was a kind and loving daughter and sister with a strong will and an enduring faith. Angela met her first husband Gerard Sydloski and married him. They created a family of six children, Jerianne ( Zaagsma), Suzanne (Kitchen), Fred Sydloski, Becky (McPherson), Lisa (Reavis), and Christopher Sydloski. Early in her marriage to Gerard, Angela also took in and cared for foster babies, loving and caring for them until permanent families were found for them. She was always sad when a baby left her care, but her love, joy, and happiness overflowed when the next little tyke came along, needing her special touch. She later worked for Michigan Bell Telephone as a long distance operator and, after that, became a secretary for the Better Business Bureau of Grand Rapids. She also volunteered for church organizations, always ready to help when requested. Gerard, her first husband passed away due to a coronary in the spring of 1970. A year or so later Angela met Kenneth Clapp, a widower and architect from Grand Rapids. They became best friends and eventually married . It was a romance written in the stars. Kenneth brought his three children, Jeffery, Cindy, and Brian into this loving collaboration as well. Sadly, Kenneth passed away in 1986 after a short but fierce battle with cancer. Angela and all the children were devastated by this monumental loss, and Angela grieved for his loss for the rest of her days, looking ever forward to being with him once again and forever. Years later to fill her time, Angela became a world traveler, delighting in trips to Europe and Ireland, then visiting cities in America. When she was struck with Alzheimers disease she stayed in her home with help from people who would visit a few times a week. Soon it became too hazardous to be alone and her daughter Jerianne took to taking care of Angela in her home . Some time after that Angela moved in with her son Christopher and his dear spouse Diane. They continued the care and love that Jerianne had provided, and gave her a good home full of love until her last days. I would be remiss not to mention a number of delightful grandchildren and great grandchildren that filled Angela's heart with love as well. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at St. John Vianney Church; 4101 Clyde Park S.W. Wyoming, MI with Reverend John Vallier presiding. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, a contribution to West Michigan Hospice would be deeply appreciated. Farewell, Angela! We'll always love you and never forget you!
