Amy Catherine Sours McGlynn, age 67, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on May 19, 2024, at Trillium Woods hospice residence in Byron Center, Michigan.

Loving and beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter, grandmother, aunt and friend, Amy is survived by her husband, Patrick, and their four children, Caitlyn, Kevin, Megan (Benjamin) Hartline of Denver, Colorado, Jenna (Daniels) White of Needham, Massachusetts, and grandsons Emmett and Myles of Needham. She leaves behind siblings Philip (Yolande) Sours of Newton, Massachusetts, Clinton (Susan) Sours of Wellesley, Massachusetts, and Kristin (Robert) Nelson of Clinton, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Carol Sours, of Utica, New York.

She was an energetic crafter, and sewed and knitted many articles of clothing that are worn and cherished by family and friends. Her skill in cooking and baking was recognized with a win at the 1990 Chocolate Lovers' Festival. She worked as a type compositor and graphic artist. She had a lifelong love of language and words, and used them with a wicked sense of humor.

Amy served for ten years as a trustee of the board of education of Grand Rapids Public Schools including a term as president, and on the board of directors of the Michigan Parent Teacher Association.

She was born in Utica, raised in nearby Sauquoit, New York, and graduated from Sauquoit High School. She completed her bachelor's degree in English at State University of New York at Albany, where she and Patrick met while working at the university newspaper.

A celebration of Amy's life will be held at Ofield Funeral Home in Kentwood at 10:30am on Saturday, June 22, 2024.

Her family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Grand Rapids Public Schools Foundation and the Alpha-1 Foundation.
