IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Allen K.
Slenk
January 20, 1947 – June 29, 2014
June 29, 2014 Allen Slenk was born on January 20th, 1947. Al grew up in Holland, Michigan, where he attended Holland Christian Schools. He then obtained a teaching degree at Grand Valley. Al was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for fly fishing, hunting, kayaking, and just about anything that got him into Mother Nature. He spent his career working for Haworth and held many positions there prior to retiring. Al married Terrie Allen in 1980, and had three daughters to whom he passed his love of family, life, and nature. He raised his family in Dorr, on a small hobby farm. Later he and his wife purchased a piece of heaven on the Manistee River, where he built his cabin and spent his leisurely time. There was nothing he enjoyed more than being surrounded by his grandchildren, family, and friends. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Alice Slenk, sister Carol Raterink, and niece Natasha Meyer Turner. He is survived by his wife Terrie, daughters Sarah (Brian) Vos of Lowell, Jennifer (Jerrod) Albright of Kissimmee, Florida, and Erinn (Daniel) Mutz of Wyoming, Michigan. Siblings Howard (Marilyn) Slenk, Thelma (Galen) Meyer, Edward (Ruth) Slenk, and Gordon Raterink. His grandchildren Allissa, Jennifer, Brendan, Andrew, Oriauna, and soon to be arriving Colton. Al's stories, humor, and presence will be greatly missed by all that knew him. A celebration of Al's life will be held on Thursday, July 3rd, at the Douglas Walker Park lodge, 1195 84th Street Bryon Center, Michigan. Visitation will be from 5:30-6:30, and an informal service starting at 6:45. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood on Al's behalf, or donating to The Upper Manistee River Association.
