Alberta "Bertie" Marie Pickett, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on Friday, September 7th in Hudsonville. Bertie was preceded in death by her husband; Wayne, sisters; Violet, Gladys, and Grace. She is survived by her daughter, Janice "Jan" (Ted) Hembroff; sister, Doris; grandchildren, Nicholas (Rebecca), Michael (Jessica), Joseph, Ted "Teddie" Jr; great-grandchildren; Lillian "Lilly", Lucas, and KenLeigh. Bertie was born in Joliet, IL but was raised in the state of New York. Bertie was married to Wayne for 68 years. They met and fell in love while Wayne was visiting relatives in New York, Bertie moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan to marry Wayne. Bertie worked for many years at Jacobson's Department Store and Upjohn. After 17 years of marriage, Bertie made the move from full-time work, to raising her daughter Jan, caring for her home and serving at her church, New Hope Free Methodist, all of which she loved deeply. In her later years she always loved having dinners at home with family and throughout the year enjoyed reminiscing through photos. A celebration of Bertie's life will be held on Friday, September 14th at 11am at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE in Kentwood, with Pastor Ted Johnson presiding. The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday. A special thank you to The Laurels of Hudsonville for taking care of their "Smiling Angel".
