Aaron Paul
Schaut
Sep 10, 1976 — Jul 2, 2026
Aaron Paul Schaut, born in Escanaba, Michigan to Bob Schaut and Paula (Fleetwood) Yagodzinski on September 10, 1976, left this world suddenly and unexpectedly due to a heart attack on July 2nd, 2026 at the age of 49. He was our friend, son, brother, husband, bandmate, caretaker, colleague, and punk-rock partner in crime. He was taken from us all far too soon.
Bursting with creative energy from a very young age, Aaron excelled in art, design, and music throughout his life. He graduated from Gladstone High School in 1995, and Kendall College of Art and Design in 2000. He started his career in animation and design at WZZM Channel 13 Grand Rapids and received two Telly Awards for outstanding commercial design. In 2012, he found his work home as Lead Developer and Solutions Architect at the Image Shoppe, where he spent nearly 14 years building websites and solving complex technical problems with creativity and care. Along the way, he challenged his team to think deeply and laugh fully in equal measure.
Aaron was a prolific multi-instrumentalist who played and composed with guitar, vocals, keys, bass, and synth to the delight of many followers of his decades-long project “Dynaflo” and more recent musical endeavor “The Dynettes.” In true Aaron fashion, he turned his full attention to writing in recent years and quickly became a novelist, producing his “These Americans” series along with other published works beginning in 2023.
Aaron married Michele Marie Melvin in 2015 and became a loving support to her, “Michele’s Rescue,” her animal foster nonprofit, and her aging mother, Judy Gabel, who lived with them for some time. Aaron was generous and supportive to his family and friends, especially his younger brother Jesse, whose special needs require a lot of patience and kindness. He was charming and charismatic, a big presence with a quick wit, making even small interactions memorable and meaningful. He was funny and silly, singing while he tinkered and mowed, making cute reels of his cats, trolling with memes, and creating hilarious personalized gifts. He was a mischievous trickster and a live wire who kept us all on our toes. He had a sensitive, sentimental heart with a big love for misfits, underdogs, cats, squirrels, and nesting birds in his yard. He is survived by his wife Michele (Melvin) Schaut, stepson Draden Barnes, mother Paula Yagodzinski, stepfather Con Yagodzinski, Mother-in Law Judy Gabel, siblings Jesse Schaut and Carolyn (Schaut) VandenBerg, brother-in-law Jeff VandenBerg, nieces Maxine and Chloe VandenBerg, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends too numerous to mention. He is missed by his cats, Gil, Junior, and Shadow Moon. A private goodbye and cremation took place at Ofield Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be announced as soon as plans are finalized with a goal of early September.
