Nancy Lea Ruch, age 62, passed away on October 6 after living with cancer for over five years. She and her high school sweetheart, Michael, were married for 42 romance- and adventure-filled years. Nancy was a nurse who worked in Holland, Michigan, Madison, Wisconsin, and Norfolk, Nebraska. But her life's calling was to be an extraordinary mother. She was the consummate "mom" and will terribly missed by five adoring sons, Alexander (Tammy) of Grand Haven, Joshua (Sara) of Traverse City, Travis (Jennifer) of San Francisco, Spencer of Cedar Rapids, and Parker who lives at home. Nana also leaves behind five very precious grandchildren, Nolan, Ayla, Hadley, Ellie, and Vincent. Nancy was a faithful follower of Jesus who believed that the road to heaven was made wide and welcoming. She believed in a loving God who cared for all of his creation, not just church-goers, and she figured many of us underestimate His grace. Nancy always had a special place in her heart for the poor, sick, and disabled and she was a treasured volunteer at Degage Ministries for over 15 years. She leaves the world a measurably better place because of her love. She is also survived by her father, Arthur Kraai, her sisters Debra (Dan) Kloosterman and Sue (Ernie) Schutte, and her brother Kirk (Jodi) Kraai, all of Borculo. Her mother, Shirley Kraai, preceded her in death in 2014. Visitation with the family will take place on Friday from 3:00 to 6:00pm at Ofield Funeral Home in Kentwood, (4500 Kalamazoo Avenue). A luncheon gathering to remember her life will be held on Saturday at Watermark Country Club (5500 Cascade Rd) at 10:30am. Memorial contributions should be made to Degage Ministries.
