Josephine Ann Cassis

Josephine Ann Cassis passed away December 4, 2016 at the age of 94. Josephine was born in Charleston, WV to Michael and Thekla Habib Abouassaly who were from the small Village of Aita el Fokhar, Lebanon. Josephine was preceded in death by her husband; George E. Cassis, siblings; George, Lee, Michael and Louise. She is survived by her sons; Deacon George "Eddie" (Vicki) Cassis and James (Christine) Cassis, grandchildren; Jamie, George, Cory, Alexis (Mike) Aylo, Peter and Amalia, great-grandchildren; Marina, Rami and Zoe, nephews; Larry (Loretta), and Robert Lee Haddad. Josephine worked at Carnegie Steel on the flight deck for aircraft carriers during the war. She then worked at the family grocery store "Supreme Market" before working 29 years at Grocers Dairy "Country Fresh" as the Secretary to the CEO of Country Fresh. She was actively involved in her church and the Ladies Golden Links Society. She enjoyed spending time sewing, knitting, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and watching game shows, but her greatest love was the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Dec. 8th, at 11:00 am at Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 334 La Grave Ave. SE, Grand Rapids. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Visitation will be at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood on Wednesday, Dec. 7th from 3:00 - 5:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm with a Trisagion Service at 8 pm. Memorial contributions can be made in Josephine's honor to Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church or Alzheimer's Association West Michigan, 2944 Fuller Ave NE #101, Grand Rapids, MI 49505.
