David Wright Obituary

David Bruce Wright was born on July 5, 1930 to Bruce H. and Lois V. (Stephenson) Wright in Battle Creek, Michigan. David graduated in 1948 from Battle Creek Central High School. He went on to attend Michigan State University and graduated from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine, Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Chicago, as the valedictorian of his class. David married Lou Ann Schuster on June 16, 1952 in Battle Creek. Dr. Wright entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at Walter Reed Medical Center, Orthopedic Services in Washington D.C.. Upon leaving the Army, he returned to Battle Creek with Lou Ann and joined his father in practicing podiatry. David continued to practice podiatry in Battle Creek until his retirement in 1985. Dr. Wright was a life member of the American Association of Hospital Podiatrists, the American Podiatric Medical Association and American College of Foot Surgeons. He was also a lifetime member and past president of the Michigan State Podiatric Medical Association and served as president of the podiatric division of the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulation. David was also a member of the Battle Creek Kiwanis Club. He was an Eagle Scout and charter member of the Beaver Totem, Order of the Arrow. During his lifetime, David enjoyed golfing, running, working out and hunting with his beloved dogs. He had an avid interest in antique cars and loved being a dad and grandpa, cherishing the time he spent with family. David loved traveling both in the U.S. and abroad with his wife Lou Ann until her passing in 1994. Dr. Wright went on to marry Joann Boyer and enjoyed spending time with her in Arizona and Michigan. David was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Joanne and brother-in-law Jim Delaney. Also preceding him were Lou Ann and her parents Virgil and Norma (Thomas) Schuster, daughter Debra Wright-Woodbury, and grandson Trenton Starring. Lastly, he was preceded in death by his second wife Joann Boyer and her son John Boyer. He is survived by his daughter Lori (Jim) Swoboda of Kentwood, MI, grandchildren Emily and Jacob Swoboda, great-grandchildren Sydney and Ryatt Starring and step children James Boyer and Vicky Fleming. He will also be remembered by his special companion Mary Morren. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 15th at 6pm at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE, visitation will be held also on Thursday from 4-6PM. David's family wishes to thank the many wonderful caregivers at Sentinel Pointe, Health Care Associates & Community Care Givers and Faith Hospice. The family has also appreciated the support of the Thornapple Community Church.
