David Harper Obituary

David Justin Harper, 88, of Grand Rapids, died on October 18, 2016. David was born on October 19, 1927 to Graham and Katherine Harper. He is preceded in death by his son Danny; grand-children, Sara Zevalking and Graham Rausch; sons-in-law, Albert Rausch and David Wanroy; brother, Bill (Bette) and George; brother-in-law, Dee Westenbrook. David is survived by his wife Grace (Boersma) Harper; children, Michael (Jan Geurink), Carol Rausch, Nancy Wanroy, and Pat Harper; sister, Dibby Westenbrook; sister-in-law, Elaine Harper; 9 grand-children, and 5 great-grand-children. David is also survived by Grace's sisters, Eleanor Elenbaas, Bertha (Len) Steensma, Anne (Ron) Ezinga, Kay Boersma and Ann Boersma; brothers, Bert Boersma, Henry (Loekie) Boersma, Harry (Helen) Boersma, Mart (Barb) Boersma and Ben (Cleo) Boersma. David was an unwavering Christian Democrat. He firmly believed in the passage of Matthew 7:12, "do unto other as you would have them do to you". David served in the Navy as a Seabee building airplane runways while serving in the Pacific. David's lifetime work was in road and bridge building, he also was co-owner of Equipment and Gravel Company. David had a wonderful sense of humor and is missed and loved by his family and friends. A memorial service in David's honor will be held on Saturday, October, 22 at 11am at Eastern Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 514 Eastern Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503, Pastor Thea Leunk officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 7-8pm at the Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorial donation to World Renew, 1700 28th Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508, would be appreciated.
