Alex Hassen Obituary

On December 15, 1941 Alex C. Hassen Sr. was born to Abdul and Lucille (Cornelius) Hassen in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Alex Sr. accepted Christ as his Lord as savior early on. Alex Sr. served in the United States Army and worked at Kelvinators for many years until he retired in 1982. Alex Sr. met and married Ernestine (Jamison) Hassen until her passing. Through this union seven children were born. Alex Sr. loved to laugh and joke around. He always had a quick come back. He was the life of the party. There was never a dull moment while in his presence. His kids could always go to dad with any and everything. As well as his grandchildren, in which Alex Sr. had a special bond with each and everyone of them. So could anyone else seeking his honest opinion. Alex Sr. was a giver and he helped many people throughout his life. Alex Sr. never let you wonder what was on his mind, because he would let you know. Alex Sr. never met anyone he did not call a friend. Alex Sr. left this world on Friday, July 8th surrounded by his family to rejoice in the presence of GOD, along side his wife Ernestine Hassen, his parents Abdul and Lucille Hassen, his beloved daughter Tina Maria Hassen and granddaughter Antoinette Sherri Mitchell, four sisters and a twin brother. He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Felicia Hassen of Indianapolis, Indiana and Marketta Hassen of Grand Rapids, Michigan, four sons, Anthony (Gwen) Hassen, Marcellus (Michelle) Hassen, Jaawaan Hassen and Alex Hassen II all of Grand Rapids, Michigan; twenty-two grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren which he loved unconditionally; one sister, Ida McGlaun of Grand Rapids, Michigan; three brother in laws, Walter (Brenda) Moore Sr., Cleveland (Sandy) Moore of Lansing, Michigan, and Eddy Ray of Seattle, Washington; one sister in law Clara Jamison of Grand Rapids, Michigan; a special friend McKinley Newton and a host of family and friends. Alex words were live to die and the march goes on. The family of Alex C. Hassen will like to Thank each and everyone of you for your words of comfort, calls and prayers. Final arrangements entrusted to Ofield Funeral Home.
